Welcome to Jemma Vineyards web page. We are located in Temecula, California in the heart of the Temecula Valley.
After spending a decade traveling to some of the most famous wine regions of the world, Jeff and Emma Kincaid settled in the Temecula Valley to start their new vineyard, Jemma Vineyards.
The combination of climate and soils in the Temecula Valley are ideal for growing wine grapes. Similar to a mediterranean climate, the warm and dry summer days with cool evenings controlled by the Pacific Ocean breezes creates the ideal conditions for wine grapes. Different soil types have a significant influence on the quality of wines. Temecula Valley soils consist primarily of decomposing granitic material. This light sandy loam material is beneficial for grapevine roots because it provides better drainage than silty or clay soils. The sand helps ensure the soil is poor enough to produce high-quality grapes.
We chose to grow Petite Sirah (also known as Durif) exclusively in our vineyards for many reason, but the most important is, we enjoy its characteristics; deep dark color and full-bodied flavors of blueberry, chocolate, plums and black pepper. It shares many similar flavors as Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon but has a more robust and tannic profile.
First grown in France in the mid-1800, it was created by botanist Francois Durif in Montpellier, France. Its a cross between Syrah and the even rarer Peloursin. It was imported in the 1880 by Charles Mclver where it got is new name, Petite Sirah.
Our goal is to produce the highest quality Petite Sirah in the Temecula Valley. Our first planting of 940 vines were in March of 2022. Our vines use 1103P root stock and certified Durif cuttings and were sourced from Wonderful nursery in California. Our second planting of 1400 fines occured in March of 2023. Our first harvest occurred in 2024.
